My Grandmother had always told me that my Great Grandfather, Ernest Crow had fought in the Boer War but until this weekend I had no proof of that.

Then, whilst clearing out a deceased relative's home, my brother came across a Boer War medal with the incription, 6315 E. Crow, Worcestershire Regiment. I haven't seen the medal but I have been told it has 4 bars on it; South Africa 1901, Wittebergen, Transval and Cape Colony.

Could anyone please tell me anything about this medal and bars?

I know Ernest was serving in the Worcesters in 1887 when he got married to Jane and at the time he was based at the barracks at Norton juxta Kempsey. However, he appears to have left the army for a while and then rejoined up.

If I were to visit the regimental museum at Norton juxta Kempsey would I be able to find out more about his military career?

Helen,
Not too sure what you are asking for. If it's asking for information on the Worcesters in the Boer War then this can be found on this excellent site.
Go to the HISTORY HEADING and scroll down to 1900-1913 and then BOER WAR 1902-02. If its the Medal Roll entry ,for the medal and clasps ,this appears
on the appropriate section of ANCESTRY where the SOUTH AFRICAN, BOER WAR is listed in the Military Section. It confirms only what you know already.
