Worcestershire Regiment

Im researching my Grandfather, Maurice P Austin Regimental number: 11287. He married in 1911 whilst barracked at Carrisbrooke Isle of Wight. He had one daughter in 1912 and it is the assumed he went to Egypt with his Battalion. Is it likely that his wife and child would have travelled with him? Was this a common practice at that time? The reason I ask is that I can find no UK record of the birth of his second daughter but I have a ghost of a memory that she was born in Egypt. Are there records available of military births at that time for the Worcestershires?

I checked the Army Births Index for you and found that there were only two births recorded with the surname Austin. Details below:

May Austin - born Alexandria - 1913
Winnefred Austin - born Alexandria - 1913

I beleive copies of the birth certificates can be obtained from the General Register Office (GRO). You will need to quote name, place born, year and page number. The page number for both the above is 626.

I'll have to follow up both of those leads because the aunt I'm looking for is known only as 'Biddy' by everyone. No one seems to know her real name for certain. Its strange how I cant even find her death record considering that her married surname is not very common and Im pretty certain she died in Kingston upon Thames.

You can also view the index on the findmypast website (you have to pay to view them).
