Pte William Henry Green No. 8624

I know that William Green, born in Birmingham, enlisted 09/05/1912 1st Battalion Worcs Regt. He died 13/03/1915. His name is on the Le Touret Memorial.

I would appreciate any additional information on young William Henry Green.

Hi Skylark<

Found the following:

Private William Henry Green (8624)
Enlisted in Birmingham 9th May 1912 (age 18 years 5 months)
His occupation at the time was a Capstan Hand
Born in the Parish of St. Andrews, Birmingham

As he was in the Army Reserves he was mobilized on the 5th August 1914 and joined the 6th Battalion (Reserves) Worcestershire Regiment at Fort Tregantle on the 9th August 1914.
He was posted to the 1st Battalion Worcestershire Regiment at the end of October 1914.

He landed in France with the 1st Battalion Worcestershire Regiment on the morning of the 8th November 1914. Not till 5 p.m. next day (November 9th) did the Battalion entrain for the front. The train slowly journeyed through Abbeville to Berguette, which was reached after dark on the 10th. The Battalion detrained and found billets close to the railway siding.

6th December 1914 he suffered from Frostbite and was sent to Hostpital at St. Omer for treatment.
25th December 1914 rejoined 1st Battalion Worcestershire Regiment.
10th March 1915 he was reported wounded at Neuve Chapelle during the fighting between 10th to 13th March 1915.
24th March 1915 he was now reported Killed in Action at Neuve Chapelle as his body was found and he died sometime during the fighting between 10th to 13th March 1915.
He was buried 1 mile North West of Neuve Chapelle.

Thank you for taking the trouble to give me this information..what sad reading it makes. Do you think making a request to the Regimental Archives will give me any additional information/photos relating to Pte William Green ?? Thank you once again..I do appreciate your help very much.
