John FURLEY, 2nd Battalion 1904-1916.

A cousin, John FURLEY (born Dennis John in Winchcombe in 1886), joined the Worcestershire Regiment in May 1904. He served with the 2nd Battalion in India, in the Army School in Norton Barracks, and was in France in August 1914 with the first wave of British troops. He saw a lot of active service before being severely wounded in Flanders on 29 September 1915. The wound left a permanent disability, and he was discharged to pension in March 1916, with the rank of CSM.

John received the 1914 Star, the Victory and War Medals, the Clasp and Rose, and a Silver War Badge.

On his entry on this site, there is also a suggestion that John was awarded the Military Medal. However, his name does not appear on the MM page under the letter F, and I can find nothing to substantiate the information, such as an entry in the Gazette.

I would be very grateful if the information on his entry could be checked.

Thank you very much.

Jane
