Hi Mike,
In addition to missing out on the 1914 Star Pte. Walter Edward Akast was further hard done by.
On the 1911 Census he is listed as Pte. William Akast and not Walter!
Even the CWGC gives his age as 22 when in fact he was born on Dec. 1884!
On enlistment he lists earlier service in the Greenwich Co.Army Service Co.(Volunteers)
At least 4 other brothers saw Army service in ww1.one of whom appears to have been a regular deserter.
His MIC and Service records indicate the forfeiture of his 1914-15 Star for desertion but not the War and Victory Medals.
Regards and compliments of the season,
corona

Mike,
Just joined Forum are you still interested in 1914 Stars?
I have just purchased WM for Pte William James BARNES 13103 1st Battalion.
Entitled to 1914 star, WM and VM. K in A 25 September 1915.
A local man to my part of the world, Glos.

David

Hello. I already have 2 posts in this section looking for the QSA's of my grandfather 1037 Pte R C Chantler and his brother 1881 Pte J Chantler. On the back of looking for these I now have over 150 medals (rising all the time) to the Worc. Regt. from Boer War to Malaya. I dont have a 1914 star unfortunately but do have one to the Welsh Regt. who died at Gheluvelt.
Any information on the whereabouts or sale of my family medals would be much appreciated.

Regards, Rich.
