Hi everybody starting to do some more research again after a long time found this great website and decided to post, hopefully the information will be of use to people and also find a little more about my great uncle.
13465 PRIVATE Joseph Hinchmore
KIA F&F 15/9/16
Had been a reservist whilst working on & off at baggeridge colliery Gornal Dudley.
About 12 months before the outbreak of war he had signed on for another 12 years and had been in france from the outbreak of war, after 9 months active service he was wounded in the right hand and was in hospital for 9 weeks then a short stay at home before returning to france. Found the above information from a copy of the Dudley Herald Nov 1916. Dudley Archives.
According to Capt stacke,s history he was in the 10th battalion just south of the river douve on the night he was killed under the command of 2/lieuts. W. Bigwood M.C. & C.C.U Newcombe it also states that 4 men were killed i have so far only found 2 along with my great uncle.
16871 Bernard William Bush &
8814 William Joseph Ravenhill.
Private Hinchmore started out in the 3rd battalion before ending up with the 10th was this due to returning to france after being wounded! What hospital would he have been sent too! And are there any photos in existence of the 3rd battalion before they left for france.
If anybody knows any more on the people mentioned above or finds any referance to Private Hinchmore i,d be very gratefull.
Good luck with your searching.
John.
