Photograph of 8th Battalion Carrier Platoon

Postby 5252450 » Mon Mar 24, 2008 4:22 pm

Hello. I am visiting my great uncle Percy Huxter and in the process of showing him that he is on the internet (much to his amusement),
he has pointed out that the man to his left is Corporal Bill Griffen who is apparently alive and well and living in Bath!

Our regards to you all.

Best wishes

John Clayton and Percy Huxter.

Hi John and Percy,

Nice to hear from you. The photo was given to me by Percy, at the time he could not remember all the names. You mentioned Corporal Bill Griffen - is he the man to the left of Percy as you look at the photo or is he on Percy's left ??

My dad was batman to Percy Huxter in WW2.

I have had many a chat with Percy over the last few years.

Best regards,

Louis (webmaster)

Hi Scully.

Yes you caught me being a bit vague there...whoops.

Percy was saying that Bill Griffen is the man to Percy's left, so Bill is the guy in the middle of the back row with the big smile.

Percy speaks very highly of you and your dad, and enjoyed his first post on a web forum and at 89 years old, a good effort I'd say!

Regards

John

Hi John,

Thanks for that information.

I see you are using "5252450" as your forum name. Is that the army number Percy had as a Corporal at Dunkirk?

When Percy was Commissioned as an Officer his number changed.

Regards,

Louis

Hi John,

Percy was commissioned as an officer (2/Lieut.) in to the Worcestershire Regiment from Sandhurst Officer Training Unit on the 21st December 1940. His new army number was then 164621.

Hi Scully.

Yes it was Percy's army number, I thought it would be good to use it as his id just as it was nearly 70 years ago! What a thought that is.
When I asked him for his number he came out with it straight away.

Thanks for the information

Keep up the good work

John
