the oldbury roll of honour states

pte phipps was the husband of mrs s a phipps of 80 juction street, brades village, he was killed in action between ypres and menin. he had been awarded the military medal for action on 8th august 1918 during an advance in the lys vally, where he was on patrol which fought hand to hand with the germans , killing two and taking two prisioners

hi terry,

i have checked his medal index card on ancestry and it has his orginal number as 4410 and later the number 201898

my guess is that he was a 2/7 worcesters man and got sick or wounded and send back to uk. on returning to france was placed into the 4th worcesters
