Regimental history shows that on the night of the 18th/19th March 1945 the 2nd Battalion Worcestershire Regiment 'B' Company came under heavy fire from Japanese grenade and machine gun fire. 'B' Company sustained many casualties. At the time they were detatched at the St. John's Leper Asylum when they were attacked (southwest of Mandalay Hill and south of Fort Dufferin). The Asylum was near a small village called Ashebyin. 'B' Company had just evacuated the priests, nuns and refugees from the Asylum a few days before.
