Hi Simon,

If you do have any other information it would be most appreciated. Thanks anyway for your original offer of information.
Is Lance Corporal Steward one of the 75 men you are researching named on the War Memorial at St. Anne's Church, Bewdley?

No, he's from the neighbouring village of Areley just upriver on the Severn - I think there's a memorial in the church there, but I'd have to check.

Hi Peter,

came across this very informative forum whilst looking for medal information on my Great-Great Uncle. 10908 Pte. Frank McEntyre 2nd Bat. Royal Worcestershire Reg. who was K.I.A in the early hours of 24th October 1914. We know the cicumstances of his death roughly, I don't suppose by some miracle somebody posted a regimental photograph anywhere ever? I would love to know what he looked like. I am in the process of trying to rectify his missing 1914 Star clasp and un-issued British War Medal for my Granddad. It's good to see the information about these boys survives still.
Many thanks
Best luck with your work

Hi Steve,

The following is all I have on the data base regarding your Great-Great Uncle Private 10908 Frank McEntyre:

Private McEntyre born (1889) and enlisted in Birmingham, Warwickshire. He was killed in action at Polygon Wood and is buried in Perth Cemetery (China Wall).

As I'm sure you know it would appear that his service records were destroyed during the bombing in 1940 and I only have his MIC and the details from CWGC ans Soldiers Died in the Great War for information.

I have not come across a photograph of Frank but as I'm always checking the old newspapers for such photographs I will let you know via this site, so may well be worth checking now and again.

If you have any more information you could add regarding Frank (Parents names, birth date etc.) it would be much appreciated.

Good luck with the Clasp and BWM.

Regards

Peter

Hi men,

I am absolutely amazed that such a clipping exists firstly Steve, my Grandad will be really pleased, he never got to meet him and Frank would have been his only uncle, actually only male relative. I would really appreciate a copy if that's possible, which is easier for you, e-mailing a scan or photocopying?
Peter, I will see if I can get anymore family information for you, parents and siblings will be easy to find, possibly a family address and acurate d.o.b? I need to verify it but I'm sure I found the correct Frank McEntyre in a census on ancestry.co.uk. I have located a clasp for his Mons Star, not cheap but as ther were comparitively few issued I am just happy to find an original. More details as they come. Thanks again fellas.

best

hi steve,
i will sent louis the webmaster of this site a copy and hopefully he will forward it to you!

it is a rather poor copy (partly my camera work!) so you might have to contact sandwell local history centre at smethwick library to get a better copy!

its from the midland chronicle januaryish 1915

Hi Steve,

thanks so much for that. It means a lot to my family to honour Frank's memory. I am planning a trip to his headstone in the not too distant future, hoping to take Grandad to meet the uncle he never knew. Grandad is a decorated veteran of Normandy, Korea and Suez - I am indeed not worthy!!

Hi Steve,

Well you didn't have to wait long for a photograph of Frank (well done Beardie).

Thats the great thing about a site like this, you ask and with luck someone will come up with an answer (or in this case a photo). I have had lots of help with compiling the 2nd Battalion ('14 Star men) database and in turn hope this will be of help to others. But still lots of work to do and any additional information on Frank you may come up with will be most welcome.

Anyone else reading this posting that has information regarding 2nd Bttn. (Worcesters) '14 star men please contact me, every little piece of information helps (photos, dates of birth, newspaper articles, letters etc.)

Regards

Hi Beardy,

I didn't hear anything from the webmaster yet, just wondering if you'd had any luck with the article on Frank? My email address is newaltdrum@gmail.com if this is easier for you to do.

Best

Sent you email with photo attached of Frank McEntyre. Was able to enhance the photo a little as the orginal was very poor.

I'm looking at a 2nd Bn casualty who died of wounds on the 10th May 1918 and who is buried at Dendermonde - the Battalion were near Busseboom at the time. Would he be a POW?? How can I clarify his status at death? Nothing on CWGC or SDGW, and no service papers...
