Hi Corona,
Thanks for taking the time to answer my post. I am having a problem understanding Southwood’s history. The time line is not making any sense.
In the London Gazette 23 October 1914, it is reported he is temporary Second Lieutenant October 20, 1914.
In the London Gazette on 28, January 1916, it is reported he a Temporary Second Lieutenant in the Worcestershire Regiment (Second Reserve Battalion (attached).
Concerning the Worcestershire Regiment 4th Battalion
• August 1914: in Meiktila Burma. Returned to England, landing at Avonmouth 1 February 1915
• February 1915: attached to 88th Brigade in 29th Division. Moved to Leamington Spa
• Sailed from Avonmouth 21 March 1915 for Gallipoli, going via Egypt. Landed at Cape Helles on 25 April 1915.
• January 1916: evacuated from Gallipoli to Egypt.
• 20 March 1916: landed at Marseilles for service in France.
It would appear that Southwood was assigned to the 4th (between February and their departure on 21 March 1915) and was later involved in the battle of Krithia Vineyard summer 1915, for which he was awarded the Military Cross.
Would this be correct?
He is mentioned in dispatches London Gazette 28 January 1916 Theatre of War: Gallipoli.
He received the Military Cross (London Gazette 2 February 1916)
Can one find a copy of the recommendations for this award? If so, where should I search?
