I am trying to find out more about a relative, Ernest Henry McLaughlin, who died in France in October 1918. I know from the medal list that he was with the Worcestershire Regiment (private no 50955) before transfering at some stage to the Queens (Royal West Surrey) Regiment.
Ideally I would like to find out:
a) How did a London boy find himself in the Worcestershire Regiment as opposed to a London regiment (i.e. did he really want to be in the Worcestershires or did the army choose for him?)
b) Is there a way of finding out which battalion in the Worcestershires he was with (and therefore which battles he might have been involved with?)
c) Is there any way of finding out when and why he was transfered to the Queens?
I would be very grateful for any information received.
Regards,
James
