Private Ernest Henry McLaughlin

Postby James » Tue Nov 20, 2007 7:22 pm

I am trying to find out more about a relative, Ernest Henry McLaughlin, who died in France in October 1918. I know from the medal list that he was with the Worcestershire Regiment (private no 50955) before transfering at some stage to the Queens (Royal West Surrey) Regiment.

Ideally I would like to find out:

a) How did a London boy find himself in the Worcestershire Regiment as opposed to a London regiment (i.e. did he really want to be in the Worcestershires or did the army choose for him?)

b) Is there a way of finding out which battalion in the Worcestershires he was with (and therefore which battles he might have been involved with?)

c) Is there any way of finding out when and why he was transfered to the Queens?

I would be very grateful for any information received.

Regards,

James

James this post maybe a bit late, but i hope you get to read it.
Ernest Henry Mclaughlin

Having researched my granddad and his ww1 history i came across a simular problem has you but grand survived so i could trace him.all of the information points to them having a simular record reg numbers dates even being in B company and the 1st of october.
I believe Ernest was first posted to the 46th training reserve which is linked to the Worcestershire Regiment. Trained at Longbridge Deverill Wiltshire.
Most likely transferred on the 12/12/1917 to the 6th Battalion Worcestershire regiment , Based at Dovercourt nr Harwich.
30th March transferred again to the BEF, sent to Etaples infantry base depot,on 31st March transferred to the 2/7 ? Worc Regiment, but on the 1st april moved to the 11th Battalion Royal West Surreys.
Ernest would have had 3 different regimental numbers.
