Hi Michelle,

His service number you gave of 14321095 was in a group of number issued to men who joined the General Service Corps which was formed in September 1943. That would mean that he was later transferred to the Worcestershire Regiment some time after September 1943. It may be likely he was one of many men who were drafted into the 1st Battalion Worcestershire Regiment in 1944.

I have found a Private J. Tucker who was with 'C' Company of the 1st Battalion Worcestershire Regiment but his number is 14423464.

You could write to:
Army Personnel Centre Secretariat
Disclosures 2
Mail Point 515
Kentigem House
65 Brown street
Glasgow
G2 8EX

Suggest you go to the veterans-uk website and click on Service Records, and PlumPudding a request form.

Hope this helps,

Louis

Thank you so much for that information so quickly :D

I know that he definately spent time in India and then Burma - so that would link him to 2nd Battalion wouldn't it?

This is sooo exciting! I like many others wish I had questioned him more when I was younger.

Thank you again x

Hi Michelle,

He could have been with either the 2nd Battalion or the 7th Battalion both were in India and Burma.

On the home page of this website you will find a link which will take you to a full section on both the 2nd Battalion of the 7th Battalion in Burma.

Regards,

Louis

Hi, I have found my grandads kit bag. On one side it says CPL Tucker 1095 LIAP 'wanted on voyage' and on the inside it says Sgt J.F.Tucker 14321095 2nd Bn. WORC.R. SEAC.

What do all the abbreviations and Wanted on Voyage mean please :-)

Thank you

Michelle

Hi,

SEAC means "South East Asia Command"

LIAP means "Leave In Addition to Python"

Python was the mandatory repatriation, from early 1945, of those units and servicemen which had served for more than a certain period of time in the Far East.

WORC. R = Worcestershire Regiment

CPL = Corporal

Bn. = Battalion
