The Bolan Pass has always occupied an important place in the history of British campaigns in Afghanistan. It is situated on the Baluch frontier, connecting Jacobabad and Sibi with Quetta. Since the treaty of Gandamak, which was signed at the close of the first phase of the Afghan War in 1879, the Bolan route has been brought directly under British control.
