Foreign Decorations and Awards

There has been a number of foreign awards and decorations which have been given to officers, NCO's and other ranks for gallantry or meritorious service. These awards are recorded in the London Gazette, indicating the granting of the award or decoration by the sovereign of the particular country or state, and intimating the British sovereigns permission for it to be accepted and worn by the recipient.

The majority of these awards and decorations were made during the First World War (1914-1920). There were also a few awards made in the Second World War (1939-1945). In addition some awards were granted at other times.
