T/Captain William Ferguson, 12th Battalion att. 2nd Battalion Worcestershire Regiment
Captain William Ferguson was killed by a German sniper, at "Frost" Trench  1st November 1916 and is remembered with honour on the Thiepval Memorial - Pier and Face 5 A and 6 C.
He was awarded the Military Cross for conspicuous gallantry in action at Deville Wood on the 24th August 1916, although wounded he remained in command.  His citation read: "He led his company with great courage and initiative. He formed a defensive flank to the right, and maintained touch throughout with troops on either flank. Later he showed great skill in consolidating the position gained." (London Gazette 14/11/1916)
