Friendly Enquiry (Found Old Watch)

Postby rjd » Fri Feb 27, 2009 3:14 am

Dear members,
Hope this is not a waste of time but i have come by a watch with an inscription on the back- reads as

"Presented to Sgt. Hammond by Members Sgts' Mess (then a number?? think its a 2 as in 2nd but maybe wrong) /Worc Regt

This watch at the moment is in a fair condition and im trying to clean it up with the view of handing it back to the owners family, I do not have a clue as to date but seems quite old.
I would welcome any suggestions or comments if anyone has any information on this as it would give me great pleasure to return this lost item, maybe i will upload a picture if i can Thanks hope for a reply . rjd

If WWI, there are two Sgt Hammond.

One G E, KIA in 1915 with the 4th in Gallipoli in may. The other Edward William Hammond, also with the 4th in Gallipoli but later (date not found) commissioned 2nd lieut and died as member of the 1st battalion in Gloucester in October 1918.

Perhaps not enough to pinpoint?
