29th Foot Regiment Soldier 1820-1821

Dear Members,

I wonder can anyone help me with a soldier from Lurgan, Co Armagh 1820.

Joseph Lyness was discharged in 1821 after 20 years of service, I have his discharge papers and I was wondering if there would be any records still surviving of his military life.

Any information would greatly be appreciated.

I can email his discharged papers if this would help.

Hi,

After his discharge he became a Chelsea Pensioner so I would imagine the Royal Chelsea Hospital in London would have details of his military service - suggest you contact them.

He served with both the 29th Foot Regiment and also with the Prince of Wales Fencibles. He was 38 years of age at the time of his discharge.

His period of service was from 1799 to 1821.

Hope this helps a little.
