In 1900 two new Regular Battalions were raised

(Militia) Battalions were renumbered 5th and 6th (Service) Battalions. The new 3rd Battalion was raised in Aldershot on the 14th February 1900. Initially the Battalion was quartered at Blenheim Barracks, North Camp, Aldershot, together with the 4th Battalion. In the Spring of 1902 the 3rd Battalion had moved from Aldershot to Tipperary, Ireland . Commanded by Lieut-Col. M. V. Hilton, with Capt. J. M. Reddie as Adjutant, and Lieut. A. Whitty as Quartermaster. The 3rd Battalion was the first to leave France for home in 1919. On the 8th February 1919 the Battalion received orders to reduce the Battalion to Cadre strength. On the 30th march 1919 the 3rd Battalion proceeded by train to Havre and embarked for England. On the 2nd April 1919 the 3rd Battalion marched through London to a hutment camp at Chisledon. The Battalion left Chisledon in September 1919 and went to Dover. The Battalion then travelled to Dublin and were quartered with the 2nd Battalion at Portobello Barracks. After the Irish Troubles the Battalion came back to England and then went out to India in 1920. Returned back to England in 1923 and was at the end of January 1923.
