Colonel Clement Maitland EDWARDS

Commanded the 4th Battalion Worcestershire Regiment from 1905 to February 1908.
Commanded the Depot Worcestershire Regiment from 1914 to December 1916.

Colonel Edwards was commissioned as a 2nd-Lieutenant in the 29th Foot (Worcestershire) in May 1878. As a Lieutenant he served with the Bikanir Field Force in 1884-85. Promoted Captain in 1886 and Major in 1899, he was made Brevet-Lieutenant-Colonel in 1900.

He served with the 2nd Battalion Worcestershire Regiment in the South African War (1900-1902) and was mentioned in despatches (London Gazette, 10th September 1901).

He went to the 4th Battalion Worcestershire Regiment when it was raised in 1900. He was made a Brevet-Colonel in 1905 and commanded the battalion from 1905 to 1908, taking the battalion from the West Indies to Malta. He retired on the 17th February 1908 to the reserve of officers.

At the outbreak of the 1914-18 War he came back from the reserve to command the Depot until December, 1916. He was responsible for the mobilisation of the reserves of the Regiment. After the war he went to Australia.

Colonel C. M. Edwards died at Exeter, New South Wales, Australia on 30th June 1946, aged 86.
