Colonel Frederick Charles RUXTON

Commanded the 1st Battalion Worcestershire Regiment from March 1883 to March 1887.

Frederick Charles Ruxton was born in Ireland in 1840.

Frederick Charles Ruxton was commissioned in to the 29th Foot by purchase on the 3rd June 1859 and given the rank of Ensign. He was promotted to Lieutenant on the 3rd December 1861.

Promotted to rank of Captain on the 20th February 1863, to Brevet Major on the 6th July 1877 and to Major on the 2nd March 1878.

He was made a Junior Lieut.-Colonel on the 1st July 1881.

He was given command of the 1st Battalion Worcestershire Regiment on the 2nd March 1883, and was promotted to Colonel on the 1st July 1885. On the 2nd March 1887 he was placed on half pay, on his completion of four years service in command of the 1st Battalion.

He married Janet Elizabeth Fell in April 1893 (she had previously married John Hawey Hooper on the 14th April 1885 and divorced on the 26th July 1892)

On the 19th December 1887 he was appointed to command the 29th Regiment District.

Colonel Frederick Charles Ruxton died in 1912.

His widow Janet Elizabeth Ruxton re-married in 1918 to Thomas Bland Strange (army officer). She died on 9th July 1925 in Camberley.
