Group showing Private Arthur Taylor (14669105) of the 1st Battalion Worcestershire Regt.

Private Arthur Taylor was actually wounded during an attack on Hill 112 on the 23rd July 1944. ‘A’ Company of the 1st Battalion Worcestershire Regiment had run into an ambush and received many casualties and it is likely Private Taylor was one of them. He was captured by the Germans and became a prisoner of war. However, due to his injuries he died the shortly afterwards (24th July 1944). He was buried by the Germans in a temporary grave at Bonnemaison, France (about 4Km west of Aunay-sur-Odon). After the war the cross marking his grave was replaced by the British (see below). He was later reburied at Bayeux War Cemetery, France (grave XXVIII. H. 17.). Interestingly, the marking on his orginal grave gave the date of death as 27th July 1944 but later the Commonwealth War Graves Commission gave the date as 24th July 1944.
